HERCULES, CA — Suspected dynamite was found near the railroad tracks in Hercules last week. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, and ultimately determined that the explosives were old fireworks that had been set off. There were no injuries.

The sticks of explosives were found by someone walking in the rocks near Railroad Avenue at Bayfront Boulevard, according to Hercules Police, who were notified around 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 19.

Hercules Police, Amtrak Police, and the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad all responded. Bayfront Boulevard was shut down for a time, until the area was declared safe.

Of great concern to Hercules Police is the fact that the person who found the explosives picked them up and moved them before calling for help. They want to emphasize to the public, "do not attempt to move any suspected explosives on your own."
