The girls basketball team tallied an impressive non-league victory Friday night, beating host Kennedy 58-35.
Senior forward Desirae Miller scored a game-high 15 points and fellow senior Charnise Jones added 10 points, as the Titans control tempo from the opening tip on their way to a complete team effort.
Eight different players scored at least two points for Hercules (2-1). The Titans scored the first nine points of the contest and opened the second quarter by going on a 10-2 run to take control of the game for good.
"We had a lot more talent," said Hercules coach Willie LaNere. "(Kennedy) played hard, but we outmanned them."
Some of that talent is young, but extremely skilled.
Leading the charge in that department is freshman point guard Mariah Seals, who opened the game with a 3-pointer. Seals, a quick perimeter player who possesses a smooth stroke from the outside, notched eight points on the night, including two shots from three-point land.
"We wanted to come out and play hard and play smart," said Seals.
The star of the night, however, was undoubtedly Miller, one of the few veteran players on the Titans' squad. Miller was the best player on the court Friday night, doing a little bit of everything for her team. Some of Miller's best work came on the defensive end, as the senior sparked numerous turnovers that turned into easy transition buckets.
"Our goal was to run and score the quickest way we could," Miller said.
Hercules, who will tangle with San Rafael at noon today at El Cerrito High in the El Cerrito Classic, went into halftime up 30-14.
Junior guard Chelsea De los santos added eight points and freshman center Julian Robinson tallied seven points for the Titans.
