HERCULES, CA — Hercules physician Dr. John Compagno pleaded guilty Wednesday to tax evasion, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced. He owes the government over $5.4 million in unpaid taxes for the years 2005 - 2011. Compagno, 70, reached a plea agreement with the government. He will be sentenced next March. He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Compagno is the owner and operator of John Compagno, M.D., Inc., West Coast Pathology Laboratory, Inc., and Histopathology Reference Laboratory, Inc., all of Hercules.
