Hercules Driver Arrested for DUI After Shearing Off Hydrant: Police

Police say when they caught the suspect he was changing his tire and his vehicle was covered in shrubbery and water.

Hercules, Calif - A man was arrested in Hercules Saturday night for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and hitting a fire hydrant, according to police.

Police said officers responded to Manzanita Place just before 11 p.m. on reports of a hydrant being knocked off its base. Firefighters were already on scene when officers arrived shutting of the flow of water.

Officers determined the damage was caused by a hit and run and began an area check for possible suspects.

According to police, 24-year-old Diego Pedroza was located in the 2000 block of Lupine Road changing his tire and his vehicle was covered in shrubbery and water.

Police said officers administered a Standard Field Sobriety Test and determined that Pedroza was driving under the influence of alcohol and had allegedly stuck the hydrant with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

He was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
