Hercules Police Chief To Retire

Police Chief William Goswick rose through the ranks. He has been with the department for 40 years.

HERCULES, CA — The chief of the Hercules Police Department, a 40-year veteran of the force, will be retiring at the end of June, police said.

Police Chief William Goswick stepped into the highest-ranking role in the department in 2010, and has served as chief just over seven years, according to the department.

Before that, Goswick served in a multitude of capacities, according to the department. He began as a reserve officer and rose to commander before stepping into the role of chief.

In addition to heading up the Police Department, Goswick is the assistant city manager for Hercules, an unusual combination of roles. He serves as acting city manager when the city manager is absent.

"It has been a pleasure to have served with Chief Goswick during my tenure as City Manager," city manager David Biggs said in a statement. "He is a consummate professional and his many years of service to Hercules are notable."

The city has retained the search firm of Bob Murray & Associates to help in recruiting a new police chief.
