Hercules Police Log: Stolen Vehicles, DUIs and More

These are the Hercules Police Department calls that resulted in written reports between Aug. 16 and Aug. 28.

Stolen Vehicle: On August 16, 2012, at 9:58am, an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Chestnut for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim stated that sometime between 8/15/12 at 8:30pm and 8/16/12 at 8:15am someone stole his red 1991 Honda Civic (2XIX987) from in front of the residence.

Theft From a Vehicle: On August 17, 2012 at 9:17am, a resident reported that sometime between 8/6/12 at 5:30pm and 8/15/12 at 5:30pm an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the 400 block of Turquoise, and stole his work equipment. The victim said the item stolen is his blood cell counter, manufactured by Flow Cytometer.

Stolen Vehicle: On August 17, 2012, at about 6:58 p.m., an officer responded to Glenwood for a reported vehicle theft. The victim stated that his gold Honda Accord (3JRW415) was last seen parked in the community parking area near his residence on 8/14/12 at about 7:30 p.m. The Honda was taken sometime between then and the time of call.

Vandalism: On August 17, 2012, at about 8:31 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Violet Rd for a report of a male subject who just punched his girlfriend’s car causing the windshield to shatter. The victim stated that the father (Nelson Vela) of her baby dropped off their son and was upset that she was refusing to talk to him. Both parties were contacted. No prosecution was desired and a case was taken for documentation purposes.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery: On August 18, 2012, at about 7:57 a.m., an officer located an unoccupied stolen 2000 Ford Focus (4NFJ564) on Tidewater near Crosswind with ignition damage. The Focus was reported stolen to CHP on 7/30/12. The Focus was stolen from Rodeo. The vehicle was recovered.

Auto Burglary: On August 18, 2012, at 11:38 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Stone Pine for a report of an auto burglary. The victim stated his vehicle was rummaged through sometime during the night. There were no signs of forced entry.

Hit and Run Collision: On August 18, 2012 at 1:11 p.m., officers responded to San Pablo Avenue and John Muir Parkway for a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision. The vehicle driver was stopped on east bound John Muir Parkway at San Pablo Avenue waiting for the red signal light to cycle so he could enter the freeway. As the red light cycled to green the driver proceeded to drive straight. As he was driving a bicyclist travelling south bound on San Pablo struck the rear driver side of the red 2007 Honda Passport. Per the driver, the bicyclist brushed himself off, got back on his bicycle and continued travelling south bound on San
Pablo Avenue. A collision report was taken for investigation.

Outside Assist: On August 19, 2012 at 2:31 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Tsushima Way for a female who had cut her wrist with glass because she was breaking up with the her boyfriend. It was determined that the male had punched his girlfriend several times while driving in Albany. The male was arrested and turned over to Albany PD for investigation. The female was transported to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. Contact Albany Police for additional details.

Violation of Court Order: An officer documented a violation of a court order involving child custody that occurred on 7/31/12. The case involves a Hercules resident and a Richmond resident. The two subjects have a history of disputes involving child custody issues. In this incident the mother refused to allow the father to have his scheduled visitation with their two year-old daughter.

First day of School: On August 20, 2012 Hercules School Resource Officer coordinated the operational plan for the first day of school. Officers were present at each school to monitor pedestrian and vehicle traffic. There were no significant issues.

Vandalism: On August 20, 2012, at 1:25 p.m., a resident from San Pablo reported that the front tires on her vehicle were punctured while it was parked at the Hercules Library on 8/16/ 12 between 4:59 p.m. and 5:34 p.m. This case is under investigation.

Warrant Arrest: On August 20, 2012, at 3:39 p.m., an officer contacted 23 year old Esmael Ramirez in the 100 block of Beechnut. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest that was issued by Contra Costa County, while he was a juvenile. Ramirez was booked at MDF since he is now an adult.

Residential Burglary: On August 20, 2012, 9:15 PM. residents reported the burglary of their residence in the 1000 block N. Shelter Bay between 09:30 a.m. and the time of call. Suspects entered through a window and completed what appears to be a specific search before locating a 2’ X 3’ safe in the master bedroom closet. The safe was pried open by tools that the suspects brought with them. The loss at this point appears to be a large quantity of jewelry, cash and collector’s coin. This case is under investigation.

Grand Theft: On August 21, 2012, at 7:26 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Ben Lomond regarding a grand theft report. All four tires and wheels were taken from the victim’s BMW sometime after 9:30 p.m. last night.

Trespassing: On August 21, 2012, at 11:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to a vacant residence on Tarn Court for a report that three teens had just hopped the fence into the back yard. Officers detained the three subjects after witnessing them coming out of the front door. The subjects were identified as 20 year old Armoni Lloyd, 19 year old Dejuan Mims, and a 17 year old male, all from Hercules. Officers determined that there were no signs of forced entry
and the residence was in fact vacant. Subjects were released pending contact with a person responsible for the property. Contact was made later with a Real estate broker who indicated that prosecution was desired. The report will be submitted for review by the District Attorney.

Petty Theft / Warrant: On August 21, 2012, at 2:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to Lucky for a report of employees grabbing someone and bringing them back inside the store. On arrival officers found that loss prevention agents had 21 year old Joseph Ha of Hercules detained for shoplifting packaged food items from the Deli. Ha was found to have an outstanding warrant for vandalism held by Fremont P.D. Ha was booked at Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft: On August 21, 2012, at 6:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to Lucky regarding a 13 year old juvenile in-custody by loss prevention for shoplifting. He was arrested and transported to Hercules Police Department. The responsible Hercules juvenile was released with a citation to a parent.

Warrant Arrest: On August 22, 2012 at 3:35 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the 1200 block of Hercules Avenue. A passenger, 33 year old Victoria Rangel, in the vehicle had a citable $5,000 warrant out of Lake County for theft. She was released with a citation.

Theft of Streetlight Wires: On August 23, 2012 at 12:15 a.m. an officer noticed 4 street lights were out in the area of Sycamore Avenue at Palm Avenue. Exposed wires were found to have been tampered with and the copper wire cut/stolen from one of the two lights poles on the center island along Sycamore Avenue. The theft occurred sometime in the previous hour.

Commercial Burglary: On August 23, 2012, at 11:44 a.m., an officer responded to the 1500 block of Sycamore for a report of a commercial burglary. The reporting party stated the last employee left the restaurant at 9:00 p.m. last night. His alarm company called him at 6:00 a.m. this morning advising him of the alarm but he didn’t answer the phone. Police were not notified of the alarm or crime until 11:44 a.m. Entry was made by breaking a window and the loss was cash from the register.

Spousal Abuse: On August 23, 2012 at 10:58 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Cottage Lane for a female being hit by her boyfriend. Upon arrival the victim and suspect were contacted. The female had visible injuries to her face, neck, collarbone, and arm. The male took the cell phone away from his girlfriend to prevent her from calling 911. The male was arrested and interviewed, and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Vandalism: On August 24, 2012, at 7:28 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the1400 block of Forest Run regarding vandalism. The reported that sometime last night three of his vehicle’s tires were slashed. This case is under investigation.

False Information to Police: On August 24, 2012, at 11:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Forest Run for a report of a male who had just walked into the reporting party’s house. When the resident confronted him he said he was looking for a party and left on foot. The resident kept a visual on the subject until police arrived. Officers contacted the male near the pool area. After giving several different names officers were able to identify him as 21 year old Duane Wilford Hooper Jr. Hooper. He was arrested and later released with a
citation.

Possession of Controlled Substance: On August 24, 2012 at 1:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to Chestunt Ct. for a disturbance. The caller advised a female was sitting in his car burning the seats with a cigarette. He also stated that she thought he was a taxi service. Upon arrived contact was made with 19 year old Andrea Chavira, of El Sobrante. She had an arrest warrant for burglary. During a search Methamphetamine was located on her person. She was arrested for the warrant and controlled substances.

Hit and Run: On August 24, 2012 at 4:45 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the parking lot at 3500 Franklin Canyon Road for a hit and run accident. The victim parked his red ’05 Saturn L300 in the parking lot at 11:00 a.m. When he returned to his vehicle at 4:00 p.m. he noticed an approximate 12 inch black horizontal scuff mark on the rear bumper of the vehicle. No other damage was done to the vehicle. A case was taken and is under investigation.

Commercial Burglary: On August 24, 2012 at 6:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to a business in the 1500 block of Sycamore for a theft of merchandise. The suspect got into the front passenger seat of a black Mercedes and fled the area. Officers located the vehicle and arrested 22 year old Andrew Martin Word, from Pinole. He was transported to Martinez Detention Facility. The driver and other passenger were determined not to be involved and
released.

Vandalism: On August 24, 2012, at about 11:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Olympus for a report of a large rock that was just thrown through the living room window. A case was taken and is under investigation.

DUI Crash & Possession of Stolen Property: On August 25, 2012 at 10:38 p.m. Hercules Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Canterbury for a report of a motorcycle that had collided into a vehicle with a disturbance heard in the background. Upon arrival 43 year old William Brossard was located bleeding severely with major injuries. Brossard was determined to have crashed a stolen Red ’06 Honda dirt bike into a parked car. He was transported to the Hospital for his injuries. A blood sample was taken at the hospital for the DUI investigation. The case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

Residential Burglary: On August 26, 2012 at 5:37 p.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Flowering Ash for a report of a burglary. The incident occurred less than 10 minutes prior to time of call. The suspect was a 14-15 yr. old black male, 5’-04”, and heavyset. He gained entry through a living room window facing the street. Suspect apparently rang the door bell first, but no one answered the door. The homeowner and her son were home at the time. The suspect fled when he saw a resident at home.

Driving Under the Influence: On August 26, 2012, 8:50 p.m., an officer stopped 37 year old Victoria Hawkins, of Rodeo, in the 800 block of Willow Ave. After a DUI investigation Hawkins was arrested. An additional charge of Child Endangerment was added, due to her 8 year old son being in the car. After a blood craw she was transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Driving under the Influence and Traffic Collision: On August 26, 2012, 9:15 p.m. officers responded to the parking lot in the 800 block Willow Avenue for a possible fight at a business. While officers were on scene 49 year old Anthony Brewer was contacted as he backed into a police car. He was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

Warrant Arrest: On August 27, 2012 at 1:59 p.m. an officer Beason contacted Ruben Ramirez as a passenger during a traffic stop. Ramirez had an outstanding no bail warrant for possession of stolen property and identity theft. Ramirez was arrested and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Attempted Burglary: On August 27, 2012, at 1:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Glenwood for a report of suspicious circumstances. The resident reported seeing his curtains move and that he believed someone had just attempted to enter through his front window. The resident did not see anyone. Officers found that the screen had been partially removed. A report was taken for attempted burglary.

Petty Theft: On August 27, 2012, at 2:17 p.m., an employee of a business in the 3600 block of San Pablo Avenue reported her wallet stolen from the business, earlier in the day.

Warrant Arrest: On August 27, 2012, at 6:03 P.M., an officer contacted 39 year old Jaimey Lamont Duff in the 1500 block of Sycamore. He was found to have a misdemeanor warrant for trespassing issued by Solano County Court. Duff was issued a citation for the warrant and released.

Domestic Battery: On August 27, 2012, 9:24 p.m., officer responded to a domestic violence call in the 100 block of Paradise. A male and female with a child in common were involved in an argument when the female spat on the male. The male in response pushed the female. No prosecution was desired and a case was taken for review by the District Attorney’s office.

Identity Theft: On August 28, 2012 a resident reported online identity fraud. She relayed that she received a voice mail from her credit card company regarding suspected fraudulent activity. Natasha checked her account and found several items were purchased online using her account information.

Mental Health Evaluation: On August 28, 2012 officers responded to Pinnacle Court for a female screaming. Contact was made with a female who was in need of a mental health evaluation. She was transported by ambulance to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.

Attempt Residential Burglary: On August 28, 2012 at 10:01 a.m. officers were dispatched to an attempted residential burglary in the 200 block of Copper Beech Glen. The incident occurred approximately ten minutes prior to time of call. The homeowner was in the upstairs master bedroom when the doorbell rang. A few minutes elapsed when it rang a second time. The homeowner took his time to check and went to the kitchen first to get a drink of water.
At that time he saw the Venetian blinds on the window above the kitchen sink was pulled up and the screen cut and peeled back. The window itself had already been left open by the homeowner. There were no indications entry was made, but there was evidence left behind to determine entry was attempted.

Petty Theft with Priors: On August 28, 2012, at approximately 3:12 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 1500 block of Sycamore regarding a theft suspect in custody by loss prevention. The suspect was identified as 47 year old Rafael Nazario, of Hercules. Narzario was found to have three prior theft convictions. Nazario was processed at Hercules P.D. and then booked at Martinez Detention Facility for felony petty theft with prior convictions.

Petty Theft: On August 28, 2012, at approximately 4:51 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 1500 block of Sycamore regarding a suspect in custody by loss prevention for petty theft. The suspect was identified as 29 year old Tedros Kebedom Yohannes of Hercules. He was cited and released for petty theft.

Vandalism: On August 28, 2012 at 11:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to Refugio Valley Rd at Sunset for a vehicle with two broken windows. An officer located a white Ford pick-up with both front side windows shattered. The owner was contacted and stated that his vehicle has been parked in its current location since Saturday the 25th. Dias has not had a dispute with anyone lately and does not know anyone who would want to damage his vehicle.

Driving Under the Influence: On August 29, 2012 at 1:53 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Willow Avenue. He contacted the driver, 28 year old Alicia Brown, of Vallejo, and determined that she had been drinking. After an investigation she was arrested and a blood draw was completed. She was booked and released with a citation.
