Hercules Seeks Committee Members for Measure O Spending
Deadline to apply for five-member oversight committee is Sept. 13.

The city of Hercules is recruiting applicants to apply for positions on a committee that will oversee revenue raised by Measure 0, the half-cent sales tax measure that voters passed in June.
The Hercules City Council will choose the committee members among the applicants, who must be Hercules residents at least 18 years old.

On June 5, 2012, City of Hercules voters passed Measure O, amending the Hercules Municipal Code by establishing a four year, temporary transactions and use tax of 0.50%. The City is currently recruiting residents to serve on the Citizens Oversight Committee for Measure O. The purpose of the Committee is to oversee expenditures of the revenues received by the City from the sales and use taxes, and to ensure that tax revenues are spent by the City in a manner consistent with the voter approved measure.
The Committee shall be composed of five (5) members who shall be appointed by the City Council. Members of the Committee must be residents of the City of Hercules and at least 18 years of age at the time of their appointment. No member of the Committee may be a member of the City Council, the Agency Board of Directors or be an officer of the City. All members of the Committee shall serve at the pleasure of the Council and may be removed by the City Council at any time, for any reason, with or without cause, by a majority vote of the Council.

Membership on the Committee is voluntary. Committee members shall not receive compensation for their service or expense reimbursement without prior authorization by the City Council and Agency Board of Directors.
