Man Driving Stolen Car Arrested In Hercules: Police

The car had been reported stolen out of Clayton that morning. The suspect had 3 outstanding auto theft warrants, police say.

HERCULES, CA — Hercules Police arrested a Pittsburg man on Tuesday and recovered a stolen car, according to police reports. In addition, the man arrested, 44-year-old Joshua Leslie Vieth, had three outstanding warrants for prior auto thefts. The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner in Clayton.

According to police, the case began as a shoplifting call at The Home Depot. Four people seen taking some gloves were said to be belligerent inside the store. As the investigation proceeded, the stolen car was discovered.

"This caper is another example of how out of town thieves are targeting our town, are being arrested over and over, and are being put back out on the streets to re-victimize our community." police said in a Facebook posting. "We will continue to proactively enforce our laws and send them to jail regardless of the outcome."
