Pedestrian Killed By Train East Of Hercules

The commuter train hit the person Thursday evening.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY —An eastbound Amtrak Capitol Corridor train struck a person on the tracks in unincorporated Contra Costa County on Thursday night, according to Amtrak officials.

The person was trespassing on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks around 9:15 p.m. when they were hit by Train No. 548 just west of Martinez, Amtrak spokesperson Olivia Irvin said. The condition of the person struck wasn't immediately provided.

The train, which had 52 passengers onboard, was delayed for 3 hours and 10 minutes before continuing on to Sacramento. Nobody aboard the train was injured, according to Irvin.

Union Pacific officials didn't immediately reply to a request for more information on the incident early Thursday.
