Pinole has been debating the cost of Fire Services for more than ten years. We are considered a "full service city" because we have our own Police and Fire Departments.

The City currently runs on a $13 million dollar budget.

The biggest cost to the City, as with all cities, is the cost of Public Safety. We have approved two sales taxes measures that were meant to bridge the gap.

Pinole taxpayers have approved two sales tax increases:

Measure S .05% increase in 2006

Measure S .05% increase in 2014.

In the past the City received reports on the feasibility of revising its Fire Services Model. One consideration was to have our Fire Department become part of the Contra Costa Firefighters.

But the Council decided to keep its Fire Department.

The questions of cost, sustainability and effectiveness continue to be discussed along with the status of Pinole Station 74.

On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Closed Session at 5:00 PM followed by the Fire Services Workshop.

This topic is an important one and one that every member of our community should be a part of.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, scheduling a Workshop for the community on a weekday at 5:00-6:00 PM, precludes many members of our community from taking part.

But, if you are able to attend this workshop I encourage you to attend and take part.
