Pinole Seniors Win National Tennis Championship

Team took the title in an Arizona tournament.

A Pinole senior men's tennis team has won a national championship, with a 2-1 victory at a tournament in Arizona, according to the United States Tennis Association. The team won the Super Seniors Division title for players 60 and older. They play in the Pinole Tennis Club.

Representing the Northern California Section, they beat a team from St. Louis in the championship match after defeating a team from Dallas in the semifinals. The tournament was held at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Arizona.

The team captains are Albert Chu and Brandon Chu. Other team members are Winston Liu, John Quandt, Ron Sid, Bill Raynolds, Robert Candelario, Andrew Hall, Louie Mangaser and Juanito Latorre Escareal.

Finishing behind the Pinole team were the Missouri Valley Section, Pacific Northwest Section and Texas Section.

The championship included 33 teams (16 men’s and 17 women’s) from throughout the nation.

Founded in 1980, the USTA League has more than 750,000 players across the country, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league, according to the association.
