CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A 2.7-magnitude earthquake struck the area Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake happened about 3:55 p.m., just over a mile east-southeast of Pinole and seven miles from Richmond.

The tremblor was recorded at a depth of approximately 3.6 miles. No injured have been reported and some nearby residents played down a 2.7 earthquake. "That’s BART passing by," wrote a man on Facebook.

But others reported being jolted by it. "I actually felt this one," a woman reported on Facebook.

"I live in Fairfield & it made my house creek & motion lights come on," another wrote.
