School Board Districts Inching Forward

Final meetings are taking place this week including one in Pinole.

Contra Costa County, CA — The West Contra Costa Unified School District is hosting informational meetings before a final public hearing Wednesday on a proposal to change the way trustees with the district's Board of Education are elected.

The trustees are currently elected at-large, meaning voters district-wide vote for all of the board's members, but in March the board approved a resolution about its intent to transition to elections for members by trustee-area boundaries.

The final of a series of five meetings that must take place before the board can approve boundary maps is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at DeJean Middle School at 3400 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond.

But before that, information meetings were held in Pinole and El Cerrito. Two more are planned at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Verde Elementary School at 2000 Giaramita St. in Richmond and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside
Elementary School at 1300 Amador St., San Pablo, according to the district.

Six potential maps are being considered by the board. The boundary maps and other information about the proposal can be found online.
