Shannon School Closure Plan On Board's Table
Final plan for relocating students is up for approval.
After a series of meetings and some modifications, parents of students at Shannon Elementary School will find out Wednesday to which schools their children will be transferred next school year.
The West Contra Costa Unified School District board is scheduled to vote on the recommendation at its Wednesday night meeting. The school is the latest in a string of closures due to declining district enrollment and budget problems. District staff estimate that the closure will save $300,000 a year.
Under the proposal, current Shannon students will be moved to Tara Hills, Collins and Montalvin Manor elementary schools. Collins is in Pinole, while Tara Hills and Montalvin are in unincorporated San Pablo.

Where the students are to be transferred depends on where they live, according to new attendace boundaries. Students who had transferred to Shannon from another school will be returned to their former school.
District staff have modified the reassignment plan after meeting with parents at Shannon in November. The district's map of the boundaries accompanies this article.
