Special City Council Meeting Called to Talk Waterfront Development

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

A special Hercules City Council meeting has been called to discuss the waterfront development project.

The council is scheduled to meet Thursday, Dec. 8 to go over several project-related measures (see attached agenda), including its Environmental Impact Report, general plan amendment and zoning designation change.

“The purpose of this project is to move the city toward the ultimate goal of building an inter-modal transit center and to provide the developer with development entitlements so that the Bayfront project can move forward,” City Manager Steve Duran wrote in his most recent .

Last month, the council reached an with waterfront developer Hercules Bayfront, LLC. to purchase 13 acres of right-of-way land from the developer for the city’s planned transit center project for just under $2.8 million.

“This project proposes to develop a 42.36 acre portion of  the City of Hercules Waterfront District master Plan (WDMP) area with the “Hercules Bayfront  Project,” a transit-oriented, mixed-use neighborhood that includes a variety of dwelling unit types  with businesses, an associated system of walkable streets, pedestrian interconnections, and public  plazas with bay views,” Duran wrote.

Also at the meeting, the council is set to vote on securing insurance for the Sycamore North building for $156,000.
