Student Ambassador Needs Support for Trip to Australia

Hope Hoben is a student and chair of the Pinole Youth Commission. She submitted the following to Pinole Patch.

Dear Sponsor,

My name is Hope Hoben and I am in 10th grade at Pinole Valley High School in Pinole, CA. I have been recommended and accepted to the People to People Student Ambassador trip to Australia this coming summer. The program enhances international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth.

I am hoping to go so I can learn about Australia, its culture, history, background, their different foods, and the way they speak. I am also going to meet Australian teenagers on the trip, get to know them, and see if I have anything in common
with them. Sharing this experience with others will make it more fun. I would like to go explore and be more adventurous about the world. I hope you can help me with my once in a lifetime opportunity.

In case you haven’t heard what People to People is about, it is a program that President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded in 1956. He believed that if people, especially our youth, from different cultures came together in peace and friendship, so eventually would nations. Programs like Sister Cities, Project HOPE, and the Student/ Sports Ambassadors were created by People to People, and have become independent programs since then. You can see what it is all about by

The total cost of this trip will come to around $7,500, which includes all expenses and necessities. The trip is 17 days in Australia, experiencing the Great Barrier Reef, the Aborigines (Native Australians), parliament, and many other things.
