Assistance League of Diablo Valley Welcomes Chevron Incorporated During Corporate Caring Volunteer Week
Chevron Corporate Partner volunteers became hands-on involved with Operation School Bell.

Seen above, (l to r) Chevron employee volunteers Patti Leigh, Vivian Lung, Jack Baker, Jill Scotcher, Chris Chung, Lisa Cavalli, Ken Kirkpatrick, Vivian Mayfield, Steve Suryan and Bevin Van Gilder gathered articles of clothing to fill 150 reusable bags that will soon be distributed to elementary schoolchildren in our community.
Since 1967, Assistance League® of Diablo Valley’s nonprofit, philanthropic programs have supported those in the Contra Costa community who are vulnerable. More recently, on September 24, Assistance League of Diablo Valley participated in Corporate Caring Volunteers Week. Observed from September 21 through 26, its goal was to connect volunteers from Bay Area businesses to hundreds of projects staffed by local nonprofit organizations. Eager to extend financial as well as “hands-on’ support, 10 Chevron employee volunteers arrived at the chapter’s Annex for an Operation School Bell® Bagging event.
Since 1994, Operation School Bell, a nationally acclaimed philanthropic program, has provided clothing and shoes to local elementary schoolchildren to improve attendance, campus citizenship and academic performance. In 2014-2015 alone, Operation School Bell served 4249 appreciative students. At 9 AM, Chevron Corporate volunteers celebrated “Human Energy” as they began working side-by-side with chapter members to answer this year’s challenges. By 11 AM, all involved had crammed six pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear, a shoe gift card, a sweatshirt, two pairs of pants for the boys or one pair of pants and one skort (upon request) for the girls, and three white, collared shirts—all into one large, reusable blue bag! Additionally, Chevron employee volunteers restocked shelves and disposed of cardboard boxes before calling it a morning. When community-minded organizations pool their resources and talents, everyone in the community wins!
