BBQ Smoker Fire Damages Pleasant Hill Restaurant, Twice

An accidental fire sparked by a barbecue smoker damaged a Pleasant Hill eatery late Sunday, then flared up again Monday morning.

PLEASANT HILL, CA — A fire damaged a barbecue restaurant in Pleasant Hill on Sunday night and then sparked up again Monday morning, requiring a daylong response from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews.

The fire was initially reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Slow Hand BBQ at 1941 Oak Park Blvd., fire district spokesperson Lauren Ono said.

The fire was determined to be accidental and started from a barbecue smoker. No injuries were reported, but crews had to be called back out at 4 a.m. and again shortly after 7 a.m., and a fire engine remained at the scene Monday evening to ensure there are no more hot spots.
