Oyster Lovers - and All Citizens - Get Shucked
The federal government caves to the Sierra Club and closes a business that has provided jobs and the harvest of natural resources. The "science" cited by the eco-extremists is flawed.
Obama's Interior Secretary, Kenneth Salazar, announced the lease on the Drake's Bay Oyster farm located on the Pt. Reyes Seashore will not be renewed, and the area will be allowed to "return to wilderness." The family who bought the farm in 2004 and their employees are now out of business, and thousands of Bay Area folks who for decades enjoyed visiting and buying the shellfish will have to go elsewhere.
This is just the latest episode of land use confiscation foisted on society by the Sierra Club and other eco-extremist groups, based on totally flawed "science." In this case, the "oyster poop" data cited was from the coast of Japan, and had no relevance to Drake's Bay. Another allegation of harm to local harbor seals was contradicted by a survey conducted recently by UC, showing the seal population thriving.
But let's not let actual facts color the situation. We should bow our little heads to the ultimate wisdom of the elitists who know better, with their mission to tell us all how to live our lives.
