Congrats To Lindsay Wildlife Named One Of Super Bowl 50's 'Go Places'

The local Wildlife Rehabilitation and Nature Education Center will host donor-supported field trips.

Great news from Lindsay Wildlife:

WALNUT CREEK, CA - The Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has teamed up with GoPlaces and Bay.org to implement the Ready, Set, GoPlaces initiative, which is providing free field trip buses for classes throughout the Bay Area to amazing destinations! And one of those destinations is Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek.

GoPlaces launched its awareness initiative of 50 free field trip buses for underserved Bay Area classes. Lindsay Wildlife Experience is a partner, with first-grade students from eight classes scheduled to come to Lindsay over the next few weeks.

During these trips, classes who likely have never been able to visit Lindsay before, will learn about California Native Wildlife.

“When they leave Lindsay, these kids will know the four major animal groups; they will know the difference between mammals and birds—and they will have touched real, live animals,” said Lindsay Director of Education Melissa Strongman.

The Go Places concept is designed to act like rideshare for school teachers, connecting teachers to bus operators backed by a donor-supported fund to pay for trips. Through the generous support of private funders and in collaboration with field trip and transportation partners, 1,500 students will be getting out of the classroom to experience the amazing nature and science attractions the Bay Area has to offer.

“For these schools the barrier for participating in field trips is transportation due to the high cost,” Strongman said. “The principal of one school told me this is like winning the lottery.”

She points out that Lindsay is able to offer the field trips for free to these schools thanks to scholarships provided by The Dean & Margaret Lesher Foundation and the Tesoro Foundation.
