The man's car went off an embankment and he struck a tree, police said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Ca - A man who died Thursday morning in Concord when his vehicle went down an embankment and struck a tree was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 47-year-old Gary Eddy.
Cpl. Christopher Blakely said officers were initially dispatched at 7:57 a.m. to a reported collision at Ygnacio Valley and Ayers roads.
Eddy, a resident of Concord, was found in a Honda Accord down an embankment near South Larwin Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Blakely said.

Preliminary information indicates he was traveling west on Ygnacio Valley Road when his Honda sideswiped a truck, Blakely said. Eddy apparently veered his Honda into a dirt embankment, where he struck a tree.
The driver of the truck was not injured. That driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
