Diablo Valley College's New President Has Served District For 24 Years

PLEASANT HILL - An interim president was selected to head Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill after the current president announced plans to retire this month, Contra Costa Community College District officials said Wednesday.

The college system's five-member governing board selected Ted Wieden, the school's interim executive dean, to serve in the position. 

District officials said Wieden will start a one-year term at the beginning of July following the retirement of the district's current president, Peter Garcia.

Formal approval of the selection of Wieden, who has served in various positions at the district for more than 24 years, is slated for the board's upcoming June 22 meeting.

"(Wieden) knows the college very well, is a respected faculty member and manager and will ensure there is leadership stability at DVC while we search for a permanent president," Vicki Gordon, governing president of the district's board, said in a statement. 

Wieden initially joined DVC as an instructor of geography and meteorology. 

He has served in many leadership roles at the school, including chair of the Physical Science and Engineering Division, as well as management positions at the district, including interim special assistant to the chancellor and interim senior dean.
