Division I stars align for DVC football players
Diablo Valley College football players are heading to Division I programs.

It has been a busy and productive offseason for Diablo Valley College football coach Mike Darr with all the Division I interest in Vikings players.
Here's an update:
Offensive tackle John Vaka has de-committed from Oregon and signed with BYU. Vaka, a Skyline High graduate, is looking to follow in the footsteps of De’Ondre Wesley, a former DVC offensive tackle who went on to BYU and is now with the Baltimore Ravens. Wesley graduated from Deer Valley High.
The National Letter of Intent signing period for transfers opened on Dec. 14.
Former DVC stalwart Chris Mulumba, a native of Helsinki, Finland, has signed with Colorado. He initially signing with Central Florida in 2015 but didn't qualify. Interestingly, Mulumba is a four-time national judo champion in Finland. He has two years left of eligibility.
Mulumba led DVC with 65 tackles and had four sacks in the 2015 season after playing at Chabot in 2014. Mulumba will join former DVC star safety Kyle Trego on the Buffaloes.
Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre is excited to have Mulumba on board.
"Chris is an excellent defensive end and outside linebacker, is powerful and strong and has a very good first step on his pass rush," MacIntyre said in a school release. "We're excited about him being here at the University of Colorado playing defensive end for us."
Defensive lineman Dylan Gilfoy, a Liberty High graduate, has signed with Division I Montana, and running back Desmond Nisby has committed to Texas Tech.
Jeff Hansen, an Army veteran and long snapper out of Las Lomas High, has signed with Kent State.
Gilfoy (6-5, 245) ranked among the state leaders all season, finishing with 11 sacks. He also reportedly had an offer from Northern Arizona. Gilfoy made his choice on a recent recruiting trip to the snowy Montana campus.
Other DVC players are exploring multiple offers and deciding if they’ll accept or wait through the spring for something better, Darr said.
