East Bay Garage Fire Knocked Down

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire in the garage of a single-family home in nearby Antioch.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in the garage of a single-family Antioch home Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

At about 1:45 p.m., fire crews responded to a call about the blaze and were able to douse it in roughly 10 minutes, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.

When firefighters arrived, they found that residents of the home in the 1000 block of Putnam Street were already evacuating with the help of a bystander.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, Marshall said.

Marshall said the American Red Cross was called to help residents find alternative housing, but he wasn't sure how many people were affected.
