Elderly Driver Dies, Pedestrian In Hospital After Monday Collision

The accident was on Contra Costa Boulevard.

An elderly driver has died and a pedestrian is in the hospital after a collision in Pleasant Hill Monday morning, police said.

The elderly woman was driving on Contra Costa Boulevard near Taylor Boulevard around 11 a.m. when she lost control of her car driving onto the sidewalk, knocking over signs and hitting a young man holding a bicycle, Pleasant Hill police Sgt. Dave Downs said.

He said the woman suffered “significant injuries” and was given emergency care at the scene before being transferred to a hospital, police said.

She was later pronounced dead.

Downs said the pedestrian hit by the woman’s car suffered “significant injuries to his lower extremities” and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating what led up to the collision, including the possibility that the driver suffered a medical emergency before losing control of her vehicle.
