Free Books: Library Hosting 5-Day Giveaway In Contra Costa Co.
Ideal for teachers, social workers and parents on limited budgets to find a variety of books, including those for children, organizers say.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – The Contra Costa County Library is hosting its annual book giveaway making tens of thousands available free to the public.
The five-day giveaway will be held from Tuesday, Aug. 7 through Saturday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the shipping and receiving area behind the Pleasant Hill Library at 75 Santa Barbara Road in Pleasant Hill.
“The giveaway is a place for teachers, social workers and parents on limited budgets to find books of all kinds,” county librarian Melinda Cervantes said. “We enjoy sharing these books with the public and making space on our shelves for new books.”

Paperback and hardcover fiction, non-fiction and children’s books will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and attendees are advised to bring their own boxes or bags to transport the freebies.
All books at the giveaway were removed from the library collection due to lack of circulation, poor condition or relevance. A September 1998 resolution, signed by the County Board of Supervisors, allows the library system to declare outdated and damaged library materials as surplus and give them away, library officials said.
