Icing With The Stars: Very Sweet Event Coming To Contra Costa County

Contra Costa Cake and Sugar Art Society hosts annual show and competition this weekend with major 'sugar artists" in attendance!

A cake show -- “Icing With The Stars” -- is being held in Concord at the First Lutheran Church on October 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Contra Costa Cake and Sugar Art Society will be hosting this show and competition, which is the largest in Northern California and will feature six major stars of the Sugar Arts World: Susan Carberry from the “The Ultimate Cake-Off”; Peggy Tucker demonstrating hot sugar; Mari Senaga; Reva Alexander-Hawk from “Amazing Cakes”; and Jay Qualls.

At the show there will be some 100 sugar items being judged, ranging from novelty cakes, decorated cookies, decorated cupcakes, sugar art, chocolate art, gelatin art, tiered wedding cakes and gingerbread art, plus a competition for the best chocolate cupcake made with Ghiradelli Chocolate.

The show opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with the awards ceremony on Sunday at 3 p.m.

$5 General Admission ~~ Kids under 4 are free.
