Japanese Market, Restaurant Plaza Opening In East Bay

Osaka Marketplace plans to open a 42,000-square-foot "grocerant" combining a full Japanese grocery store and several small restaurants.

PLEASANT HILL, CA β€” Pleasant Hill will soon become a regional destination for Japanese cuisine thanks to the opening of Osaka Marketplace, a Fremont-based Japanese marketplace that announced it will be opening a location downtown.

The Pleasant Hill location, which will open in mid-2026 at the former location of Orchard Hardware at 155 Crescent Plaza, will be much more than a simple supermarket, according to a post from the city of Pleasant Hill. It will be a β€œgrocerant:” a mix of a grocery store and several small restaurants spread out over the garden center portion of the former hardware store. Guests will enjoy semi-outdoor dining from several small eateries offering sushi, ramen, chicken karaage, and bento boxes.

The grocery portion of the 42,000-square-foot site will offer a large selection of authentic Japanese groceries, fresh produce, seafood, ready-to-eat meals and rare imported foods and foods.
