Mosquito Alert: Numbers Up Due To Rain & Warm Weather

The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District is reporting increased mosquito populations during the past week.
District officials said the increase is likely due to recent rains and warmer weather. Mosquitoes produce faster in hotter weather, according to the district.
Officials said this year’s mosquito populations had been below average.

The district reported a group of mosquitoes from Byron have tested positive for West Nile virus.
One chicken from Holland Tract and three dead birds from Danville, Discovery Bay and Martinez also tested positive for the virus.
