
PLEASANT HILL, CA — Strandwood Elementary School in Pleasant Hill was awarded this week an honor only bestowed on a small fraction of schools nationwide, becoming a member of the latest National Blue Ribbon Schools class.
The U.S. Department of Education announced the winners Wednesday, which included a total of 329 schools across the country. Thirty-three of them are in California. The majority of California's winners, 19, are located in the southern part of the state.
Strandwood Elementary is part of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

All schools will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 7 and 8.
National Blue Ribbon Schools are an "inspiration and a model," the Department of Education said in announcing the selected schools.
