Salvadorian Murder Suspect Spotted in Concord, Arrested in Vallejo

A suspected gang member wanted on suspicion of murder in El Salvador was arrested in the Bay Area after Concord police officers spotted him during a routine traffic stop, U.S. Marshals Service officials said this week.

Alleged MS-13 gang member and fugitive Fermin Aguilar-Agueta, 26, had been wanted for murder in connection with a March 2007 fatal shooting of a rival gang member in El Salvador, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

He was charged for the crime in El Salvador 2009, and an Interpol Red Notice was issued for him in 2013. On Sept. 22, Concord police officers spotted Aguilar-Agueta during a traffic stop, according to the Marshals Service.

The officers gathered information about the suspect and his associates and sent the information to the U.S. Marshals Service. The next day, the Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force determined that Aguilar-Agueta had been living in the U.S. illegally with no record of legal entry.

Task Force members were able to find the car stopped by Concord police officers the in the 1200 block of Georgia Street in Vallejo and set up surveillance in the area.

Aguilar-Agueta was spotted a short time later getting into the car and Task Force members stopped the vehicle and arrested him without incident.

He was transferred to a U.S. Immigration and Customs facility pending deportation.
