Stargazing August 17 with John Muir Land Trust and Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society!

John Muir Land Trust and Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society invite you to spend an evening exploring the night sky!

The stars are aligned for another stellar Stargazing event on Wednesday, August 17th from 5:30pm-9:30pm at John Muir Land Trust’s Fernandez Ranch, a permanently protected 702-acre natural area.

This popular event, hosted by JMLT in partnership with the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society offers something for everyone! The evening promises great views of the full moon, Saturn and its ring system and the Andromeda Galaxy some 2.3 million light years distant! Child-friendly materials and a demonstration of how to use the binoculars and equipment will be included.

5:30 pm
– Docent-led walking tour - “Pacing the Planets - using POINT mobile app technology. Description and
download information here.
6:30 pm – Ice Cream Social
7:00 pm – Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society presentation
7:30 – 9:30 pm – Stargazing using Astronomical Society’s phenomenal telescopes!

This event is open to the public, free of charge and ADA accessible. To ensure comfortable viewing, guests should bring a blanket and/or chair and flashlight. Evenings at Fernandez Ranch can be chilly, so consider dressing in layers. Budding and experienced photographers alike are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the evening beauty of Fernandez Ranch. Your photograph may be selected for JMLT’s website!
