Three days of incredible BBQ, live music, family fun and community celebration, THIS Father’s Day Weekend at the free King of the County BBQ and Music Festival at Martinez Waterfront Park, Friday through Sunday.
Presented by the Martinez Refining Company and the Martinez Chamber of Commerce, this beloved community tradition draws more than 20,000 attendees for an unforgettable waterfront weekend filled with entertainment, amazing food and shopping selections, kids fun zone and activities for all ages.
The festival features FREE admission and parking, making it the perfect Father’s Day Weekend destination for families throughout the Bay Area.
Festivalgoers enjoy live music from eight top local bands, mouthwatering BBQ and a dozen more eclectic food and beverage vendors, local wine and beer, kids rides, arts and crafts, and commercial exhibitors throughout the weekend.
Festival hours are THIS Friday 5 – 9pm, Saturday 11am – 9pm and Father’s Day Sunday 11am – 6pm. 
On Saturday and Sunday, BBQ teams from across the region battle it out for the coveted title of “King of the County.” The Backyard BBQ Competition welcomes dozens of teams annually, including returning champions, family teams and first-time competitors, all looking to claim bragging rights while taking home trophies, swag and cash prizes.

King of the County BBQ & Music Festival - Free in Martinez June 19-21

Diablo Valley Farmers' Market

Looking for something fun to do with Dad this weekend? The Diablo Valley Farmers’ Market is hosting its annual Zucchini Car Race on Saturday, June 20th. This free family event invites participants of all ages to bring a locally sourced zucchini and transform it into a race car using free wheels and decorating supplies provided by the market.
Participants are encouraged to arrive by 10:00am to build and decorate their cars. All entries must be completed and registered by 10:45am, with racing beginning promptly at 11:00am. Kids and families will enjoy watching their creations speed down a custom-built race ramp while the community cheers them on. The fastest cars advance through a series of heats until champions are crowned. $100 prizes will be awarded for Fastest Car and Most Creative Car.
The annual tradition celebrates summer harvest season and gives families a fun, hands-on way to connect with local agriculture while creating lasting memories together!
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
<ul><li>Participants supply their own zucchini. All ages are welcome to participate.</li><li>Free wheels and decorating supplies will be provided by the farmers’ market.</li><li>All participants must complete their car and register it at the race track by 10:45am.</li><li>Every zucchini car must have a name, so start thinking about what you'll call yours.</li><li>Racing begins promptly at 11:00am.</li><li>Cars will compete in a series of heats until the fastest car is determined.</li></ul>
ALL ZUCCHINI CARS MUST FOLLOW THESE RULES:
<ol><li>The zucchini car must not exceed 6.5 inches in width, including wheels, and may not exceed 16 inches in length.</li><li>No weights or motorized devices are permitted.</li><li>Zucchini must be farm fresh and sourced from a farmers’ market or local garden.</li><li>The axle must pass through the zucchini.</li><li>Cars may be built at home in advance or assembled at the market using the supplies provided.</li></ol>
This unique event is fun for both participants and spectators of all ages. The Zucchini Car Race is a nostalgic callback to the days of backyard competitions, creative play, and screen-free fun that bring communities together.
While you're at the market, enjoy the best of the summer harvest season, including Brentwood sweet corn, Organic berries, tree-ripened nectarines, peaches, sourdough breads, handmade pastries, and more. Visitors can also enjoy lunch from local food vendors offering gourmet crepes, handmade tamales, and other delicious prepared foods.
The Diablo Valley Certified Farmers’ Market is a location approved by the County Agricultural Commissioner where California farmers offer for sale only those fruits and vegetables they grow themselves. Voted California's Favorite Farmers’ Market in 2023, and Walnut Creek's Best Farmers' Market in 2025, the market operates year-round every Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in Walnut Creek.
