Supplying Booze To Your Teens? East Bay Mom Arrested This Week After Her Son's Party Ended In Tragedy

A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of felony involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with a car accident in Fremont last year in which a 17-year-old boy was killed, police said today.

Authorities are holding Tabassum Yousuf partly responsible for the fatal crash because evidence indicates that she bought and furnished alcohol for her underage son’s party at her home that was attended by the victim and two other 17-year-olds, who also were involved in the collision, Fremont police said.

The three teens crashed into a tree near Durham Road and Topaz Way at about 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 27, 2013.

The front passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy who was a friend of the victim, was arrested and later was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving.

However, Fremont police said they continued investigating the matter and concluded that Yousuf was also responsible for the fatal accident because she provided alcohol at a large party at her house that evening and large amounts of alcohol were consumed.

Yousuf was arrested on Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Fremont today, police said.
