WATCH: Hiker In Medical Distress Rescued By CoCo Helicopter Crew
The man was suffering chest pains and it was determined he needed immediate medical attention, Contra Costa County sheriff's officials said.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A hiker quickly got the medical attention he needed this week thanks to Contra Costa County emergency personnel. The rescue took place Tuesday on Briones Trail, off Castle Rock Road near Borges Ranch, when a sheriff's STARR helicopter crew was dispatched to a call about a hiker in distress who needed immediate medical attention.
The hiker was about three-fourths of a mile up the trail when he started suffering severe chest pains and called 911, sheriff's official said.
A Contra Costa County Fire Protection District captain/paramedic was among those assigned to the call and was lowered from the helicopter to the trail. Upon assessing the hiker's condition the captain/paramedic determined the man needed immediate evacuation, officials said.
