Woman Reports Drunk Husband Making Bomb; Area Evacuated

The 37-year-old Concord man was arrested. County Hazmat and Walnut Creek bomb squads responded.

Police evacuated residents near an apartment in Concord early Saturday evening following a report of a man who was allegedly making a bomb.

At 5:49 p.m., police responded to the 1800 block of Robin Lane for reports of a suspicious circumstance, according to police. When officers arrived, the officers smelled a strong chemical odor coming from the apartment.

After the officers evacuated the apartment and the nearby area, Contra Costa County Hazmat and the Walnut Creek Bomb Squad arrived and rendered the area safe, police said.

During the investigation, Robin Lane between Meadow Lane and Virginia Lane was closed for about 3 hours.

Officer learned a woman who lived at the apartment called to report her husband was intoxicated and had been mixing unknown chemicals in order to make a “flash bomb,” according to police.

Police arrested the suspect, a 37-year-old Concord man, on suspicion of child endangerment and several other charges, police said. His identity has not been released.
