On Labor Day weekend, California’s largest and longest-running Scottish Games returns to the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton with the 160th Annual Scottish Highland Gathering & Games. A Bay Area tradition since 1866, this milestone celebration promises a weekend of traditional competition, vibrant entertainment, and rich cultural experiences for the whole family.

This year’s event proudly hosts the 2026 Men’s Scottish Heavy Athletics World Championships and the 50th annual U.S. Championships for men and women, featuring elite athletes in feats of strength and skill. You can also enjoy the Games traditional Piping & Drumming, Highland Dancing, and Soccer competitions.

Entertainment continues throughout the weekend with live performances by Scottish folk singers, Celtic rock bands, fiddlers, harpists, Scottish Country Dancers, and Irish Dancers. Don’t miss the spectacular daily grandstand show featuring special guest pipe and military bands, culminating in the stirring finale of the day, the breathtaking sight and sound of the ever-popular Massed Pipe Bands, where hundreds of pipers and drummers perform as one. Wander through the Glen of the Clans, where clan representatives proudly share their tartans and family histories, or explore Scotland’s storied past in the immersive Living History re-enactment area.

Additional attractions include sheepdog trials, birds of prey and Celtic animal exhibitions, and a charming display of vintage British cars. Tempt your taste buds with a wide array of Scottish favorites—from scones and Scotch eggs to bangers, pies, and fish and chips. Browse dozens of vendors offering kilts, tartan goods, jewelry, and other traditional wares. Visitors aged 21 and over can also sample fine Scotch and other whiskies at the popular Whisky Tasting venue.
