UPDATE: Brush Fire Burning in Sunol Regional Wilderness Doubles in Size, 50 Percent Contained

A brush fire in Alameda County has doubled in size this afternoon but is 50 percent contained, according to Cal Fire. Firefighters responded to the fire at about 4:30 a.m. near Geary and Calaveras roads, just outside the Sunol Regional Wilderness, Alameda County fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

The fire had burned 20 acres and was 20 percent contained at about 8:50 a.m., a Cal Fire official said. As of about 3:30 p.m. it had grown to 45 acres.

No structures have been burned or threatened and no one has been injured, according to Cal Fire. Knowles said it is possible more than one lightning strike at more than one location started the fire, which multiple people reported.

A 20-acre brush fire is burning near the Sunol Regional Wilderness this morning in Alameda County, according Cal Fire. Firefighters responded to the fire at about 4:30 a.m. near Geary and Calaveras roads, Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

Knowles said it’s possible more than one lightning strike started the fire, which multiple people reported. So it could have started in more than one location, she said. Firefighters are working in heavy brush and firefighters had the fire 20 percent contained as of about 8:50 a.m., a Cal Fire official said. She said firefighters do not know when the fire will be 100 percent contained.

No structures have been burned nor are any threatened, Knowles and the Cal Fire official said. No firefighters have been injured, according to Cal Fire.

A 20-acre brush fire is burning in the Sunol Regional Wilderness this morning, Cal Fire officials said. The fire sparked early this morning in heavy brush along a drainage ditch and a steep hillside, Cal Fire officials said.

No structures are threatened by the fire and no injuries have been reported.
