One of the most touching moments during a Relay For Life event is the Luminaria Ceremony which takes place after sundown, honoring the community’s cancer survivors and remembering those lost to the disease. Glowing luminaria that bears the name of someone who has battled cancer will circle the track. Meanwhile, participants will enjoy a slide show of pictures and memories of those they’ve lost and those who live to fight on. Luminaria bags may be purchased for $10 by visiting www.RelayForLife.org/TriValleyCA.

Also a part of Tri-Valley Relay For Life event is the Fight Back Ceremony, in which a community leader will inspire Relay participants with his or her own story of commitment and will challenge them to take a personal pledge of action (e.g., stop smoking, eat more healthily, exercise regularly, etc.) in fighting back.

The American Cancer Society is the cause fighting cancer on every front; standing shoulder to shoulder with cancer patients and those supporting them. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, the event can last up to 24 hours and empowers communities to take a stand against cancer.

In addition to the support of the community, Relay For Life of Tri-Valley is also supported by many local businesses and organizations. This year’s sponsors include: Fremont Bank, Stanford Health Care - ValleyCare, UNCLE Credit Union, ATI Architects and Engineers, Kaiser Permanente, State Fund Insurance, and 96.5 KOIT.

Together, we can beat our biggest rival. Join or donate to the Relay For Life of Tri-Valley. Visit www.RelayForLife.org/TriValleyCA
