Amador Valley Students Host Finance Fair

Three Amador Valley High School students hosted a finance fair on February 16th to promote financial literacy.

Three Amador Valley High School students, Tejasvi Desai, Amanda Deng, and Sandhya Kalavacherla, recently hosted a finance fair at Amador Valley High School, called the Investing in Our Future Finance Fair. The three students, who are juniors, founded the Investing in Her Future non-profit organization to promote financial literacy skills throughout the community, specifically for women.

The finance fair walked students through different financial skills that are needed at different points in their lives. Two hundred Amador Valley students participated in the event, learning the necessary personal finance skills to be successful throughout life. Topics covered included different types of bank accounts, college planning, budgeting, investing, real estate planning, financial advising, and retirement planning.

Local finance companies, including First United Credit Union, Palma Financial Services, and BlueSky Wealth Advisors, supported the event and taught at different booths. “The Finance Fair was a great experience for me. I loved talking to Ms. Coumou from BlueSky about the different types of financial planners and the types of insurance. I would say I learned a lot,” said 11th grader Rohan Tyagi.

The Investing in Her Future organization will continue its impact in the Bay Area, teaching free finance workshops at the Pleasanton Public library and planning more events in the near future. “There is a lack of proper financial education within the community, and it is our mission to provide tools for students to start off life after high school with a stable future,” co-founder Amanda Deng said of the organization’s main focus.
