Forward Progress Stopped On 'Little Fire' As Containment Grows

PLEASANTON, CA — Forward progress has been stopped on the Little Fire, which remained at 1,007.3 acres as of Wednesday at 7:50 a.m. Cal Fire reported at 7:50 that forward progress was stopped and the fire is now 40% contained.

As of Wednesday morning, evacuation orders are lifted for the ALC-072, PLS-079, and PLS-082 Zones, but remain in effect for PLS-103 and PLS-081. See here for an interactive evacuation map.

Cal Fire said that no civilians were injured, and no structures were harmed. One firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries after an engine fell over, but was out of the hospital Wednesday morning, the agency said. See here for all Cal Fire updates and information.

The Pleasanton Senior Center was designated Tuesday afternoon as a temporary shelter. About 154 people came to the center when it was activated, and three people stayed overnight, according to city spokesperson Tiffany Thurber. "Shelter beds and other resources were available, and there were sufficient resources to accommodate those who utilized the shelter," she said.

The fire broke out at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday near Vallecitos and Little Valley roads, a rural area of unincorporated Alameda County near South Pleasanton and Sunol. It spread rapidly, aided by dry brush and high temperatures that resulted in a National Weather Service Heat Advisory. The fire spread to 50 acres within around 20 minutes, and had reached nearly 1,000 acres by 6:35 p.m.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Cal Fire has taken control of the fire as of Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to cool down about 10-15 degrees in the area Wednesday, reaching highs of around 85 degrees with higher humidity. Despite the smoke, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Fire and Smoke Map shows healthy air around the fire area.
