PLEASANTON, CA — Cook's Seafood appears to have permanently closed its locations in Pleasanton and Menlo Park, effective Oct. 28, according to a photo of a notice with the Cook's Seafood letterhead.
"We are sad to inform you that after 98 years, we are closing all locations effective October 28, 2026," the message reads. "As you know, this year has been very difficult for restaurants. Our Team thanks you for all your years of visiting us, and we'll miss you."
Inmenlo.com reported that the restaurant's Menlo Park location was closed during its listed business hours Thursday morning. Patch also called the Pleasanton location just after 1 p.m. Thursday, and was directed to voicemail. The phone number for the Menlo Park location rang indefinitely, with no opportunity to leave a voicemail.
Patch also emailed the company and reached out to the city of Pleasanton for further information.
Cook's has not released any information about the closing on its website or social media pages as of Thursday afternoon.
Plans for the Pleasanton location date back to 2017, when the business first applied for city permits. A sign announcing that Cook's was "coming soon" remained in the window for many years as the restaurant dealt with challenges related to staffing, the pandemic, and health issues, according to a Pleasanton Weekly report. The yearslong delay became a running joke among some Pleasanton residents. However, work began in 2024, and the restaurant finally opened at the Koll Center Plaza May 12, 2025.
Cook's began in 1928 as a fish market that also served fish and chips, and later expanded into a full-service seafood restaurant.
