Sept. 3, 2020

Pleasanton Planning Commissioner Jack Balch kicked off the voter outreach portion of his campaign by hosting two Meet Jack events at Kids Against Hunger located on Quarry Lane in Pleasanton. The events were held on August 22, 2020 and August 29, 2020, and all attendees were asked to cover the costs of the meals they packed and to donate if desired. Every dollar raised went directly to Kids Against Hunger and not the Balch campaign.

While maintaining social distancing and wearing masks, the at-capacity participants proudly packed a total of 10,584 meals that will be feeding those in need in our broader community. Kids Against Hunger informed the group that the meals were being shipped to nearby San Jose.

“I wanted my outreach to be meaningful and to help people, so I needed to do something more than the typical meet and greet the candidate. When the pandemic began, I remember learning about the long food lines, and it motivated me to find something we could do to help. It really hit home for me when I learned that the meals were going to our neighbors in San Jose.”

At the same time that Balch was learning about the growing food insecurity needs, his campaign began receiving sign-ups for volunteers to support him in his candidacy for the Pleasanton City Council. It was a natural step to ask the volunteers who sign up for his Campaign to see if they would also volunteer for Kids Against Hunger event and no one hesitated.

“I’m extremely thankful for Pleasanton answering the call to service. We’ve helped feed so many in need,” concluded Balch.
