Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Car on Hwy 84 Identified

The Fremont man was riding in Sunol when he was fatally struck.

A bicyclist who was killed when he was hit by a car while riding on state Highway 84 near Sunol Friday evening has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 31-year-old Steven Mi of Fremont.

The California Highway Patrol said Mi was headed west on the right hand shoulder of Highway 84 west of Sunol at about 6:25 p.m. on Friday when he abruptly turned into the westbound lane and was struck by a 2013 Nissan. Mi was ejected and came to rest down a dirt embankment on the north side of the highway, the CHP said. He was pronounced dead there at 6:38 p.m. on Friday.

The CHP said the cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation. It hasn’t yet determined if drugs or alcohol were involved, CHP officials said. The Nissan’s driver and two passengers reported no injuries as a result of the crash. No arrests have been made, the CHP said.
