Go Green Week at Alisal

Alisal kids raised enough money to protect several acres of rainforest this week! Curious about how they did it? Read on...

Did you know you can protect an acre of rainforest for $35? Alisal Elementary School kids raised enough money to protect several acres of rainforest this week, which was Go Green Week. They will be donating the money raised to help preserve rainforest habitats.

Yesterday, the kids in the club performed "lunchtime theater" for the other Alisal students. The skits brought to life all the things in a typical lunchbox, where they come from, and where they go once lunch is done.  Kids learned about recycling, green waste, and reducing their use of plastic bags, bottles, and juice boxes that cannot be easily recycled.

Today, the club set up an obstacle course on the field. Students brought in spare change to donate in exchange for a chance to go through the obstacle course. Challenges included crushing cans and bottles, fitting through tight spaces, and walking the balance beam. Everyone enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine, and raising money for a good cause!

All through the week, classes were visiting Alisal's new learning garden, where they can see an ecosystem evolve through the year. Our school is helping students learn to be responsible stewards of the earth.
