Introducing a new Patch Blogger: "Excited and Scared"
First blog, who am I, why am I doing this and what I hope to talk about. Theater, community, being a mom.
My name is Debbie DeSantis and I live in Livermore. I've never written a blog before and I am not really sure how to get started so this might be a little bumpy.
Am I supposed to write this like a journal entry or do I assume people are actually going to read it and "talk" to readers?
I just finished writing my profile and felt a little like I was writing my eulogy. It is a little strange to try to capture your essence in a few sentences. I'm a mom of two boys ages 9 and 12. My younger son loves sports and Pokemon. His favorite subjects in school are P.E. and recess. My older son also loves sports, but primarily loves acting. He constantly sings around the house driving everyone to the point of madness. I never imagined years ago when I spent months begging him to say "mama" that I would someday ask him to be silent.

Aside from being a mom, I work for a large non-profit corporation in their IT department. I am a volunteer for and am also a board member. I LOVE the theater and anything Disney. Someone recently said to my son that he is either in a show or at a show. One of the main focuses of this blog will be talking about local theater.
While I feel a little like I'm pretending to be a writer, I am first and foremost a mom.

Please forgive me now, but I will be telling you about shows my son is in. While I don't consider myself a stereotypical "stage mom" (and if I ever start behaving that way please whack me in the head with the nearest prop), I do get involved in his productions as a volunteer when asked.
I don't know how to say "no, I'm busy that day," so I end up incredibly busy, but it is a lot of fun. My mother is a writer (a real one) so I've been around writing and writers all of my life. I have always told people I don't want to write, but somehow always end up doing it.
Some of you may receive the TVRT Monthly Newsletter - I am currently the editor.
I am married, and in addition to the people in our house, we have a cockatiel named Yogi (she is almost 22), a guinea pig named Elvis and a 10-gallon fish tank with an assortment of fish that changes every few weeks.
I don't know blog protocol so I don't know how long I should talk, but I'm guessing in most cases I'll talk for too long. I don't know how often I'll be writing. I'll try to keep the topics somewhat limited to local theater, the challenges of being a working mom and my feelings, insights and reflections about things...ok, so I might talk about many different things.
I am definitely someone with opinions and don't mind sharing them, but I absolutely value differences in thought and have changed my opinions about some very important things throughout my life by listening to some very smart people who like to share what they are thinking too.
