Fiery I-580 Crash In Pleasanton Kills One: CHP

All lanes of the highway have reopened.

PLEASANTON, CA: All lanes on westbound I-580 near Hopyard Road in Pleasanton have reopened following a fiery fatal collision involving five cars and a big rig Wednesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

At least three vehicles caught fire and at least one person was killed in the crash, CHP said. Smoke could be seen from all over Tri-Valley. Drivers say traffic on the highway slowed to a crawl and backed up to Livermore and into Dublin side streets. Officials with the Alameda County Coroner's Office were dispatched to the collision, according to CHP records.

CHP officials issued a Sig-Alert for the crash, which was reported just before 6 a.m. The express lane on westbound Highway 580 was opened to all traffic, according to the CHP.

Livermore-Pleasanton Fire and Alameda County Fire crews responded to the scene, according to Livermore-Pleasanton Fire officials.
