Burglars Loot Santa Cruz County Home While Residents Sleep

Sheriff's deputies are putting out the call to surrounding county residents, trying to find out if others have been targeted.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Residents in rural Aptos got an early morning scare Monday after being awakened by a pair of burglars inside their home. Now sheriff's deputies are putting out the call to surrounding county residents, trying to find out if others have been targeted by the suspected thieves.

When deputies responded to Monday's call for help, they found a male and female inside the caller's home "actively stealing items," according to the sheriff's department. The suspects were quickly arrested, but during the investigation deputies "found numerous pieces of stolen property ...," the sheriff's department continued.

The suspect vehicle was stolen out of Santa Cruz County with stolen license plates out of Campbell, and inside were additional items believed to have been looted from homes and/or vehicles, possibly in the Aptos rural area where the couple was caught, according to the sheriff's department.
