Burglary Suspect Hits Cop With Car In Pleasanton

Injured officer released from hospital. Suspect sought; getaway vehicle described as gray Honda Accord with Uber sticker on windshield.

PLEASANTON, CA –A Pleasanton police officer was struck and injured Wednesday by a fleeing car after trying to stop a burglary suspect in the Vintage Hills neighborhood, according to officials.

The injured officer, whose name was not released, was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the police said. He was discharged from the hospital and was home recovering, the Pleasanton Police Department police said Thursday.

Police were called Wednesday at 5:28 p.m. by a homeowner who received a motion alert from his security system with surveillance footage showing a male ransacking his house on the 700 block of Montevino Drive in Pleasanton.

Responding officers saw a man inside a Honda Accord at the home, but the driver sped off south on Montevino, the department said.

A second officer, at 5:38 p.m., spotted a vehicle matching the Honda's description at the Montevino and Crellin Road intersection, got out of his patrol car and verbally ordered the Honda driver to stop, police said.

Instead of stopping, according to the agency, the driver accelerated and drove directly at the officer, striking him before fleeing west on Crellin, the department said.

Police were unable to locate the vehicle or the suspect in the area.

The vehicle involved was described as a four-door, newer model, gray Honda Accord with a front dealer plate that had a light blue background with white lettering. The Honda also had an Uber sticker affixed to the upper, driver-side windshield, police said.

The driver was described as Hispanic, with a "round" face, and wearing a black, flat-brimmed baseball cap.
