PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton found a loaded ghost gun and a cut catalytic converter in a car. Last week, officers conducted a traffic stop near Owens and Rosewood drives, and saw that one of the passengers was on searchable probation. In California, that grants officers the right to search a vehicle without a warrant.

Officers found a loaded ghost gun hidden beneath the rear passenger seat, and a cut catalytic converter in the trunk.

The passenger was taken to jail on suspicion of a weapons violation.

Catalytic converter theft has long been on the rise across California. About twice a year, Las Positas College and the Livermore Police Department host a joint free catalytic converter etching event, so that converters will be easier to track down if they’re stolen.
